Becoming a real estate agent in today’s market can be challening, but that doesn’t mean you can’t succeed! In order to help new realtors, we’ve put together a set of tips that we feel are very important when getting started in real estate. Check out our tips below!


Tip #1 – Find a mentor or join a team

A great to for new agents is to find yourself a mentor or join a team. We know a lot of agents want to do it alone, but that time with a mentor or a team is invaluable. You’ll learn so much by having people around with experience in the industry.

TIP #2 – Be a sponge

Going along with our first tip, one of our biggest tips is to be a sponge and soak up as much knowledge as you can about the industry. Whether you’re doing your own research or taking advice from a colleague, it’s important to ALWAYS be learning new things!


TIP #3 – Have Perseverance

It is a challenging year to be a new realtor, but it doesn’t mean you can’t succeed. Due to low inventory and high competition, you have to have more perserverence and fortitude this year (2021) than any other year. You may write many offers that don’t work out, but don’t give up and keep pushing!

TIP #4 – Ask questions

Make sure that you’re asking questions! A lot of people are afraid to ask questions, especially to the real estate agent that they may be working with on the other side of the transaction. Dont be afraid to ask questions – most real estate agents are more than happy to help.


TIP #5 – Stay organized

One of the best habits to get into as a new realtor is to be organized with your time. Block out time specifically for prospecting new clients, creating content for your brand, nurturing current deals, and more. First priority is getting your first client – but, as you start to get more business, staying organized and managing your time become crucial.

TIP #6 – Be a wealth of knowledge for clients

Educate yourself and be as helpful as possible for your client’s purchase. For most people, this is the biggest purchase of their life, so being as knowledgeable and as helpful as possible is what it’s all about to smoothly guide your client through the transaction.


TIP #7 – Be confident

In order to gain confidence in yourself as a real esatet agent, you’ll have to learn as much as you can about the business.

TIP #8 – Embrace Opportunity

Don’t just look at the price-point of your listing – you want to take as many listings and as many buyers as you possibly can to gain that experience. Also, do open houses for your fellow colleagues. Gaining expereince should be your number one priority as a new realtor.


TIP #9 – Find a good mentor

Find yourself a good mentor! this is one we had to list twice because you will learn so much by finding a good mentor.

TIP #10 – Make cold calls

Making cold calls can be one of the best ways to get new business. When your new to real estate and you don’t have much money, a free way to get leads is to pick up the phone and start calling people. You can call expireds, for sale by owners, and for rent by owners.


TIP #11 – Be a value

Being a value is how you stay in this business. If you’re helping people negotiate, doing your research and recommending neighborhoods, you’ll be of value to people and make it in the business long-term.

TIP #12 – Network, then network some more

Network as much as you can with other agents and even by working with lenders and title companies. Being active in the real estate industry is a great way to make lasting friendships and professional connections.
